The Star Spangled Dolls were similar to the jointed Steve and Stephie but had variations to hairstyles/makeup etc.  There were 10 dolls in the original Star Spangled series.  They were:
  • Indian Maiden
  • Colonial Girl
  • Pioneer Daughter
  • Southern Belle
  • Thanksgiving Pilgrims (set of 2)
  • Liberty Patriots (set of 2)
  • Jazz Performers (set of 2)

The portraits below are from the Star Spangled booklet included with each doll.  The information was also printed on the front of the boxes.

"SOUTHERN BELLE" I'm Rosa Lee Linda from Natchez. I live with my family on a huge cotton plantation. Around here, cotton is king and daddy frets over dry spells and smiles when he can boast of his crop. We love company and guests are welcome all the time. Henry Clay, that fine old man who people are calling "the great compromiser" even had supper with us all a week ago.

"PIONEER DAUGHTER" I'm Sara Jane Benson. My family and 40 others in covered wagons are heading west on the Oregon Trail. We've taken along all we own, from cows to plows. Sometimes I knit to pass time, or I watch the beautiful countryside. I've seen herds of buffalo grazing - with wild flowers all around. Today we're going to Jim Bridger's fort. He's a famous frontier explorer and will help us reach the Pacific Ocean before winter comes.

"NEW ENGLAND (COLONIAL) GIRL" I'm Miss Alison Thompson from Boston in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Everyday my girlfriends and I go to school to learn needlecraft and sewing. The whole city is alive with waiting and whispering. Will the British take the tax off tea? What will we do if they don't? Fight? It is so exciting! My father and his friend, Paul Revere, are patriots - I am too!

"INDIAN MAIDEN" I'm Smiling Eyes from a Northern Plains tribe. My mother and sisters and I weave blankets in colours of the sun and sky. My brothers and father go each day to hunt deer for food and clothing. We welcome many travelers. Men named Lewis and Clark came and we gave them food and horses for their journey. We have been at peace with all peoples for many years. I hope it will always be so.

"THANKSGIVING PILGRIMS" We are James and Louisa Winthrop from England. We have settled in Plymouth. Our first winter has been full of hardships and troubles - but this Spring the Indian, Samoset, came. He is very wise and kind and has taught us how to catch fish, raise corn and stalk game. Our October harvest this year was small - but enough to make us rejoice that we have come this far. We had a feast of Thanksgiving to celebrate.

"LIBERTY PATRIOTS" We're Regina and Richard Stanton from Philadelphia. Some have called it the loveliest of all colonial cities. It's the largest and richest, too, with a library, a hospital and even a college. Everyone here is very excited about independence. There is even talk that the declaration will be signed in our city! Tonight we go to a meeting to hear from our most honored Mr Benjamin Franklin.

"JAZZ PERFORMERS" We're Mellie and Louis Harris from New Orleans, where life is music and music is jazz. Louise plays the trumpet with Jell Roll Morton, the famous piano player. I sing blues. We play in parks to people dancing on the grass, at cotillions or in cabarets 'til the night is filled with swirling colours and a sweet jazz wail. Our favourite place to play is on street corners for the whole world to hear!
